Lawsons was first awarded gold IIP standard in 2013 however in 2015 the new standard, “The Sixth Generation”, was launched internationally. This new standard boasts four levels of accreditation – accredited; silver; gold and platinum and typically those being assessed against the new standard drop a level however due to LCEU being a great employer, an outstanding place to work and our commitment to sustained success we have been deemed to still be worthy of gold under the new standard.

Its framework reflects the latest workplace trends, essential skills and effective structures required to outperform in any industry. It allows companies to benchmark against the best in business on an international scale.The assessment process is rigorous but achievement of the standard demonstrates that we understand that our people make a difference.
LCEU Strategic Director, Amanda Lawson-Stoner said “Despite our delight at having retained Gold, we are not happy to rest on our laurels and have already started to implement action points which will enable us to achieve platinum status in the future.”
Our corporate calendar for 2017 will feature the works of local amateur photographers.
Following a competition run on social media, a number of entries were received celebrating
the beauty of Denbigh and the surrounding area.
Capturing special moments and wonderful scenery the twelve photographs tell a compelling
tale and would grace any wall on which they will be displayed. Each of the winners will
receive a copy of the completed calendar.

A massive diolch and llongyfarchaidau, congratulations to our Operational Manager Paul Jones and jetter Harry Jones who have been awarded the prestigious Diolch Award by Dwr Cymru Welsh Water.
The Diolch Awards recognise and reward individuals who clearly put the vision of DCWW – to earn the trust of customers every day – at the heart of everything they do.
The customer wrote to Welsh Water to let them know how impressed he was with both Paul and Harry when they visited his home about a surcharging manhole. The crew, he said, arrived within an hour of his call, and despite the location of the manhole, he appreciated how they kept him up to date with the progress. “I cannot praise them enough on their courtesy and good manners”, he said.
Both Paul and Harry were presented with a Diolch Award pin and a £35 high street voucher as a thanks from Dwr Cymru Welsh Water.
They were also thanked via letter by Chris Jones, the chief executive of DCWW for their continued support and effort.

We at Lawsons value the community in which we live and as such are proud to support many local organisations and events. Our Senior Director, Angeline Lawson, is currently chairperson of the Henllan Community Leisure Association which organises the annual Henllan Extravaganza. With a number of the family sitting on the committee, employees who volunteer to help on the day and employees and their families who come along on the day to enjoy the fun – this really is an event which is eagerly anticipated by the wider Lawson family.
Speaking after this year’s Extravaganza, Angeline thanked all those who helped make it a huge success.
The sun shone as the crowds flocked to the field to enjoy the event held at Garn Field, Henllan. With a host of displays and activities ranging from parrots to axemen, Morris Dancers to classic cars, Denbighshire Leisure Services, children’s activities run by the Henllan children Activity Group, shire horses, falconry, ferrets, craft tents, play areas and Horlicks the sheep every taste was catered for. Add to the mix stalls, stands, delicious food and some foot tapping music to boot and this was truly a day to remember.
Speaking after the event Angeline said: “The HCLA is a non for profit organisation, our aim is to support and bring the local community together, I believe Henllan Extravaganza 2016 achieved this!”
She also paid special tribute to the committee members and volunteers who worked tirelessly to make sure this year’s event was such a success. “The support we received this year was overwhelming with many volunteers turning up to help erect and to dismantle the show field including representatives of the Caerwys Show and the St Asaph Country Fair.
“We now look forward to repaying the compliment at the Caerwys and St Asaph events. It is important that we support each other if we are to ensure the survival of these unique village and country fairs.”
The HCLA’s next event will be the annual Bonfire and Firework display on November 5th 2016.
Amanda Lawson-Stoner CMIOSH
We are pleased to announce that our Strategic Director, Amanda Lawson-Stoner, has gained Chartered member status with IOSH. Here, in an exclusive interview, Amanda documents her journey.
“Joining the family business back in 2008, I was given the chance to find an area that I wanted to progress in. I found my niche in health and safety.
I joined IOSH (Institution of Occupational Safety and Health) in 2010 as an Associate Member. IOSH is the chartered body for health and safety professionals. It is the voice of the profession, the one who sets the standards and supports, develops and connects its members, with resources, guidance, events and training.
In 2011, I upgraded my membership to Technical Member (Tech IOSH). This category recognises the qualifications, competence and experience needed by professionals working in a range of operational health and safety roles. In order for me to maintain this status, and keep my skills, knowledge and experience up to date, I was required to join the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Programme
In 2015 I upgraded the membership to Graduate Member (Grad IOSH). This category recognised the completion of a L5 Occupational Safety and Health qualification and the fact that I had maintained my CPD. I was then asked by IOSH to start the completion of the Initial Professional Development (IPD).
The IPD process wasn’t an easy one, but is in place to allow us to demonstrate our professionalism. The process started earlier in 2016 with the completion of two assessments – one being a multiple choice questionnaire the other a set of two reflective answers.
Upon completion of the first part of this process, I was required to attend a peer review assessment. This involved an hour’s review with a panel of members who are also members of IOSH at Chartered Fellow status. The interview / assessment involved me giving a ten minute presentation on how I had progressed in health and safety, the issues faced when dealing with health and safety in the workplace and my targets for the next five years. Following the presentation, I was asked eight core questions based on health and safety and asked how I applied these in my workplace – the answers to these would demonstrate my competence and professionalism. To complete the assessment, I had to answer key questions based on the IOSH Code of Conduct, which details the four high standards which I must work towards as a professional – Respect, Integrity, Service and Competence.
The hour soon went!
I have today received news that I have passed the assessment and the IPD as a whole, allowing me to gain Chartered Member Status (CMIOSH)
IOSH is the only organisation in the world which offers Chartered membership to health and safety practitioners. Employers know that when they work with a Chartered Safety and Health Practitioner, they are dealing with someone who is at the top of their profession. Chartered Members have the respect of their peers – other professionals know that they have been through a rigorous process to become Chartered and have met the high standards of the world’s most prestigious body for health and safety professionals.

Gwyn first joined us as a foreman renewing manhole covers and frames. He then became team leader on one of our major projects before being promoted to agent in 2014.
